LJers, it's time to at least set up your boltholes. Here are some Dreamwidth Account Creation Codes. Go wild. I have this many because I bought a lot of accounts. If you take one, it'd be cool if you left me a note in comments so I could cross it off. But hey. If you just work down from the top trying codes until you find one that's live, that works too. And this offer does not just apply to LiveJournal folk. If you want a code, or two, or five, take them. 34YJMAF28AZFGAAAF2S7 RW4C7G6CDHEFCAAAF2S8CVSNPHWHRHQH9AAAF2S9 KFPVC5VEA3WMNAAAF2TA HQG47A2ZKQDJ5AAAF2TB 5GBC3ERTH3NS3AAAF2TCZV2M2MGAWVMV6AAAF2TD VKYGK2XQ282ASAAAF2TE 63364KV8RDTBBAAAF2TF D7V3PGX2XJMX8AAAF2TG JCNJ9NF9PBDVXAAADPFM AEY792RVAFDR3AAADW7H VEWYPGHQMGEFXAAAEBAW STZRN4DRSJ8P4AAAEBAX NMP2PRKCJMWFGAAAEBAY 8SPK54VQH4HT7AAAEBAZ DZ44CS59K87GSAAAABNN WB2HNMM3V99VHAAAABNS D2T2Z4WQGKKADAAADPFLXKAF9JTV6H76JAAADRHJ G6PSR7JYBNQZJAAADRHK TQAQYVQDT829PAAADRHL 9RD4GEQ58GVX9AAADRHM WF5ZF998R6SP3AAAEAGJ AZ5DSSW43TYXRAAAEDC6 SWMTW8MYPX4ETAAAEDC7 VK6FYSYQZBEV8AAAEDC8DSE2HK7FR2EHGAAAEDC9 ABT6373TEEXYMAAACMLJ 6HZXVBF3Y6J2TAAAAXM3 K27CSQ6HER6FHAAAAXM4DVCHKG7SMNBGWAAAAXM5 5HX6RBDCR5W45AAAAXM6Q84849F3VPG7WAAABFV3 XT7QJQWZV8JX7AAADL7M 48TRGGM4BREBWAAADL7N SNB24GGB268CPAAADL7P VAXP77K44CPQBAAADWKKN395XET26WMWXAAAEF4L 2BF3YTKMY3FDGAAAEF4M WKG8BJHV2NTCHAAAAA8L N7DTDDVVKCQEAAAAAFVT ADJF4TKDZDDWTAAAAFVUPHRHKQS62P49YAAAAFVV EJ863Z3Q5H3JKAAAAFVWG5QR9EGNENAPXAAAAFVX HFAJ77N32JEPGAAADNTG 4G389QJFEPBXHAAADNTH S2RWBVRW2YRBKAAADNTJ C3CXGEDS3RFDKAAADV3B MAMB4CTP3GR7RAAAEG7EMP7WZZ8A7CN4YAAAEG7F Y38WQ37N4GRPNAAAD6Q8TCBRAEXNZN4CPAAABR7D GX5ZGRJEC5SDQAAABR7E T9368VXDPZQSQAAADLH9 KJ3H8PPZB7DX6AAADLJAC8KSJ7CH34TB2AAADLJB 34D3WC844VZ9RAAAD6TW 6CW9NRDBHWWJ4AAAEFNL DDKFJP7CKQNTPAAAEFNM 7YDNWCM9F7Z9XAAACZWX FGN6XT277FHFZAAACZWY TN5G4SFRWQBRNAAADL2N BQ2N5DWCESGFXAAADL2P 9K4HB54NNSQRCAAADL2Q CC6ZSABBDQTVFAAAEFZAT3QMS6APZ3X7EAAAEFZBThis entry is crossposted from http://ivorygates.dreamwidth.org/148794.html. have commented on it. March 3rd, 201008:57 pm: Okay, I Give Up
...Does ANYBODY know how to make Word 2003 for Windows admit once and for all that the documents I create in it are in English? It keeps insisting on changing my default language to Portuguese, which is all well and good, but I am not writing in Portuguese. I've tried the HELP files, I've tried the internet, and none of their helpful hints actually, you know, HELPS. Okay not that anybody is pining to know this, but I thought I would just tell you anyway because I am sharing and giving liek that. It has been mooted [looks at hilarytamar] that my AUs proliferate like… oh well, a really proliferating thing, okay? And it is a truth universally acknowledged that everything putting spin on Dani that doesn't happen around Hathor happens on Kelowna [Kelowna, Langara, tomayto, tomahto]. [Except that you will be pleased to note, hilarytamar, that Naquadaah Magnolia Dani totally pwns Hathor.] Of course, there are some AUs in which neither event happens at all: I'm thinking mainly here of off-the-beaten-track AUs like "Change Is Only the Beginning" and "Thunder Road". But meanwhile back at the ranch… ( Read more... )This entry is crossposted from http://ivorygates.dreamwidth.org/147843.html. have commented on it. Comments here are disabled. February 25th, 201009:51 am: I Am Not Living In The Truman Show
...but outside my window the snow is coming down in ENORMOUS movie-style flakes, the kind that are large enough for the camera to see, you know? In anticipation of its continuation, i went out to shovel a dog-path. IT WAS LIKE SHOVELING SLUSHIE. 7/11'S NEW WINTER FLAVOR SLUSHIE! *sigh* I wish further to note that seeing those big white dots falling slowly but persistently from the sky is really disorienting. At least when you're driving a car, they're kind of horizontal. But for now, vertiginous vertical lines... 1. You'll be fascinated to note that the prospect of email is the primary motivator for getting me out of bed. 2. I am up at this unhallowed hour because I could not face clearing eight inches of heavy wet "light flurries" off my ride at 1am. We are apparently expecting about eight more inches of "light dusting" in the next 72 hours. It is depressing to consider that Colorado Springs gets less snow than I do here. 2a. I could be induced to clean *nine* inches of heavy wet -- and not the yummy kind, thank you so much damned_colonial -- in the daylight because I own Booby Foot Blue PLASTIC SHOES! Which at least means they won't dissolve in snow. You take your fun where you can. 3. Since it snows snowishly every year, the Civil Gods were so stunned by the notion that OH MY GOD IT HAS ACTUALLY SNOWED YES AGAIN WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TO that they have not yet bothered with snow plowing. They've entirely given up on sanding and salting on the theory it leads to the propagation of evil spirits, apparently. 1. I just read an Old Skool Horrible SG-1 Story. Alas, propriety forbids me from providing details. 2. When I am Galactic Overlord, sequins will be banned at Westminster. OTOH, a friend of mine did take Best of Breed with her Tri Cav. You can view lots and lots of Westminster here: http://www.westminsterkennelclub.org/2010/video/breed/index2.html3. Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder. When I contemplate abandoning my glamorous existence of international spy/assassin-cum-supermodel-jetsetter, I imagine second careers. Like running an absinthe bar. http://www.lamaisondabsinthe.com/4. This morning I almost left the house without my backpack. This totally trumps the time I left the house without shoes, but is not as fraught with fraughtieness as leaving the house without keys. Fortunately, it's impossible to lock myself out of the house. 5. One of the children (and I know who!) has decided that the phrase "sink your teeth into a good story" should be taken literally. 1. While we didn't get as much snow as other people did, it was still enough to stick me at the home place rather than the office place tonight and last night. 2. While working at home means I can commute naked -- a definite plus -- and have access to a nearly-infinite supply of hot tea [Constant Comment, if you wonder], what home does not possess is a desk-utilizable surface and a chair-utilizable surface. 3. Furniture workarounds really suck. 4. Incarnadine von Hellmutt decided that yesterday -- after nearly a year in residence -- would be a great day to chew through the power cord of my Asus EEE. This would be the Asus EEE I've been using as the world's most overengineered bedside clock, yes. 5. I hate dogs. Okay, just Other Peoples' Dogs. Okay, just Other Peoples' Dogs who chew up my computer. [Incarnadine, I'm looking at *you*.] 6. Meanwhile, I am reading "How To Teach Physics To Your Dog" [I sense a trend here] and so far the only section of it I've understood is the chapter on quantum entanglement. Although it is a bit worrisome that apparently there are a whole group of physicists who go around FedExing *photons* to each other. I can imagine the conversation now: "Oh hey, we've got another one, Harv!" "Is that from that whackjob at Princeston who keeps shipping photons to Berne?" "Yeah, that's him!" "Gee, Wilbur, I've never figured out why these boxes are so heavy. Aren't photons supposed to be -- you know -- like *light*?" [*rimshot*] Thankyew, Thankyewverymuch, I'll be here all week.... 09:10 pm: Ad Astra Per Not So Much Asperum, Please
Does anyone know how accurate this article is? http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/space/os-no-moon-for-nasa-20100126,0,2770904.storyWe haven't been back to the moon in forty years. We haven't been to Mars at all [as a manned mission]. Our Space Shuttle is aging technology and our shuttle fleet is antique. [Do not get me started on the state of our Air Force rolling stock or we'll be here all night.] Yet NASA's funding in the proposed budget is apparently going to be slashed. There's always been a segment of the nation that thinks of the Space Program and NASA as pork: pointless useless sciencey stuff that's useful only to create plush jobs in specific constituencies while providing no benefit to the citizenry at large. Permit me to disagree. Those "plush jobs in specific constituencies"? Are all in the technology sector. We lag behind a lot of countries in terms of degreed citizens, scientific education, working scientists, and just plain educated people. Why is cutting jobs in the hard sciences a good thing? [America Firsters, don't everyone answer at once.] The idea that the Space Program provides no Earthly benefits is an urban myth. When the US decides to go to the Moon, it has to figure out how. That's scientists and engineers solving technical problems, and a number of their solutions, from Astroglide to Teflon, become part of life on Earth. It's SCIENCE: when you invent something really cool, a lot of people want to use it. Ditch the expansionist arm of NASA, and there goes our blue-sky, not-linked-to-special-interests R&D. Last of all, let us consider the teachings of the Air Force SERE School, a slightly-different Law of Threes than you might expect me to quote. You can survive three weeks without food, three days without water, three minutes without air, and three seconds without hope.Ad Astra. To the Stars. It's our hope. Not just mine or some geeks' or Lockheed-Boeing's or the United States of America's. Everyone's. For the technology it creates to help us survive and prosper here on Earth. For the knowledge it brings us -- no knowledge is ever wasted -- that lets us build new solutions and fix old problems. For the faint hope -- but the hope is there -- that we'll find someone else to talk to. For the wealth we can harvest from our solar system. For the planets as yet undiscovered outside it, where Humanity might someday live. But only if we keep going now. Every year we delay is opportunity lost, problems unsolved, resources expended -- or wasted -- or lost. Earth is finite. Earth is fragile. It's a fight for her survival and ours, and we can't bring a knife to this gunfight. We need to bring our A Game. We need space. Wanna go "Back To The Future"? Offered for sale:
1981 Delorean DMC-12 expertly modified to look exactly like the vehicle featured in the film “Back to the Future.” This incredibly accurate replica of the Delorean Time Machine was painstakingly built by Gary Weaver, owner of www.bttfparts.com, over the course of 2 years, from 2006-2008. January 3rd, 201001:08 am: Fic Roundup 2009
Looking back on it, 2009 was a very disappointing year for me, ficwise, because I didn't finish very much, though I got a good chunk of the way into a large number of novels and novellas. I'd wanted to get "Blues Run The Game", my Stargate: Continuum rework done, but I didn't, although I did manage to release "Loving Is A Gamble" into the wild. So for 2009, my important fic stands as "Tiger By The Tail" and its endpiece "The Widow's Walk", both of which are [in some sense] a fixit for Ripple Effect. If you squint. Oddly enough, I continued to write bits and bobs of Farscapish stuff, though once again there's a whole half-written novel waiting in the wings. ETA 12/15/2009 10:47 AM: the code has now been rolled back and will not be pushed with the next codepush. synecdochic has chapter and verse here. Comments are frozen, I believe to the entire post. This is LJ-specific. NOT Dreamwidth. * Gender will be a mandatory field at LiveJournal account creation* LiveJournal is removing the Unspecified option for the gender field. That's right: you get to be male or female. Period. That's it. ( Source.) LJ is now saying "it didn't mean it" in various AmazonFaily ways, but if you want to register your displeasure (and convince them that -- unlike Amazon -- they should not try to sneak this change to LJ in later) go to Edit Profile on your LiveJournal account -- if you have one -- and select Unspecified for your gender option. Then, go to http://www.livejournal.com/contact/?dept=feedback and politely register your displeasure. POLITELY, boyz and grrlz, because the kiddies who read and process Feedback are not the people who make the decisions. They are often the people who are on the same side of the issue as you are and are yelling up the food-chain about the decisions. To also reach someone who's higher up the corporate ladder than the poor staff members who have to read and reply to Feedback, also email anjelika@livejournalinc.com -- Anjelika, GM of US operations. She's currently saying they never meant to make that part of Changelog go live at LJ's next codepush, so letting her know personally that it would make you very unhappy is a real plus. If she's on our side, it will give her ammunition. If she isn't, it will give her a headache... This entry is crossposted from http://ivorygates.dreamwidth.org/140310.html. have commented on it. December 9th, 200909:33 pm: Gay-Themed Picture Books for Children
http://booksforkidsingayfamilies.blogspot.com/Picture books for children about the experience of knowing or having a gay parent, family member or friend.
This list serves three purposes: for parents who would like to find books for their children about the experience of being a child in a gay family, or having a gay friend or family member, two: for librarians who would like to develop collections on this topic, and three: for counselors and therapists who would like to use these books in their practices. Summaries included are either from the Library of Congress, Books in Print or book catalogs. The list will be annotated as books are reviewed. [from the site] These look like books for much younger readers -- the kind who need to have books read to them than reading them, I'd say. The site contains links to a variety of resources, as well as links to a list of GLBT or GLBT-Friendly Parenting Organizations. December 7th, 200911:31 pm: Vidrec: Stargate SG-1 : 40 to 1
From the ridiculous to the sublime. Author's Notes: My first video: a tribute to the brave men and women who have risked and sacrificed their lives in the fictional yet heroic struggle against the Goa'uld empire, set to the songs "Heimdall's Ruf" by Equilibrium and "40 to 1" by Sabaton. Just pretend they're singing "Ta'uri" instead of "Poland" and "Goa'uld" or "snakeheads" instead of "Wehrmacht" or "Reich", that way it makes more sense ;-) I don't own any of this; Stargate is property of MGM and SciFi. This is my tribute and for entertainment purposes only. Greetings from Germany and enjoy! (Yeah, I'm bored and distracted tonight. Why do you ask?)
